Saree, the traditional attire of India, is one of the most beautiful outfits in the world, which portrays femininity at its highest glory. Every Indian woman has adorned herself with this six yards of beauty at some point in her life. Sarees are fashioned from various fabrics of which silk is one of the oldest forms. Pure silk sarees are found all across India, with various kinds of silk produced in different parts of the country.
Types of Pure Silk Sarees in Assam
The land of Assam is not just lauded for its scenic beauty at its bountiful best, but also for the silk produced here. Assam prides itself for the three types of silk – Pat, Muga and Eri.
Assam is naturally blessed with muga worm, similar to silkworm, from which muga silk is produced. This silk, typical to Assam, has a golden color, also referred to as the muga color by the natives. The sheen of this fabric increases with every wash, making it the costliest silk in the world.
The second type is Pat Silk produced from silkworms living on mulberry trees. It comes in white and off-white colors, though they are dyed to create sarees in stunning colors.
Eri silk is formed from Eri worm found in the North-East regions of India and in some parts of China and Japan. This silk is thick and has a course texture, although finer versions are available nowadays. These three types of silks are used to craft pure silk sarees in intricate designs, which are even exported abroad.
